Vancouver Suburbs

Hey folks! I'd love to hear your input on various suburbs around Vancouver. I'm mainly looking for positive information about each of them, rather than the downsides.

For example:

I've spent a lot of time in White Rock/South Surrey, and it has a decent number of good restaurants, it has two beaches, there is a lot of green space and there are a number of areas that are pedestrian-friendly.

I haven't been to Port Moody much myself, but I have friends who have moved there, and they say that there are beautiful views of the mountains and water and they love being so close to the mountains and places like Buntzen Lake. There also seem to be a few decent restaurants.

Everyone always complains about the suburbs, but it's where most residents of Metro Vancouver live, so let's hear a little optimism.

Well I grew up in Ladner, so I know a lot of stuff about there - there isn't a lot to DO, but there are some nice things about it - the bird sanctuary, Westam Island for blueberries in summer, the dike to walk around, and the best part is OWL, the raptor rescue - it's a lovely place to visit or volunteer. It's a pretty town, quiet, relaxed, lots of farms.

New Westminster is a wonderful community. Queen's Park is awesome, other parks are fun too. Lots of heritage houses, just walking the streets makes you proud about your community. We've got a waterfront, pretty well developed and fun. Many old restaurants with good traditions, known and loved by everyone. The steep slopes is a free gym :) And New West is well situated strategically in the centre of everything, when you need to commute to other areas like PoCo, Port Moody or North Van everything is equally achievable in 1-1.5 h by transit.

Agreed on New West which I returned to this past July. Had the most affordable condo prices without being too far from a lot of stuff. It's was a bit down in the dumps for a while but is back on the upswing. The Shops at New Westminster station are for me one of the best things they've done. I love to go to the Canada Games pool where you can workout in the gym up above, then cool off with a swim.

Only downside really is the hills. For my own self it could use more Modo cars closer to where I am, but that could improve over time.

+1 to this! New Westminster is awesome, and there are still more shops to come in the New West station from what I can tell :3 Not a bad commute to other places, either, and it's more peaceful than the heart of the city, imo.

Out of all the suburbs I'd say New West has the most good things. It all depends on what you want out of your life of course. What kind of environment. How you'd prefer to get around... etc.

Parts of Burnaby are nice along Kingsway too.

definitely new west. i've lived here for 5 years and it's SO convenient, no matter where my school and work required me to be (surrey, langley, downtown vancouver - it's all equally easy to get to from here).
